Zovirax, a potent antiviral medication, is commonly prescribed to treat various viral infections such as herpes simplex virus (HSV), herpes labialis (L Leg) and herpes zoster (S). It works by inhibiting the synthesis of viral DNA, thus preventing the spread of these viruses. Zovirax is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that helps reduce pain, swelling and fever. It is often used in combination with other antiviral medications to treat chickenpox, shingles and genital herpes. This medication can be purchased over-the-counter (OTC) or in the form of a liquid that is easy to use and does not require refrigeration. It is available in both topical and oral forms.
Zovirax works by inhibiting the replication of herpes viruses and its effect on the cells of the body. Its mechanism involves inhibiting the growth of the virus. This means that the herpes virus is no longer able to replicate and is instead able to spread throughout the body.
Zovirax should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. However, it is important to follow the dosage instructions provided by your healthcare provider. Typically, Zovirax is taken twice daily for five days.

Posology:The cream was obtained from a research-led development to treat herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections of the skin and mucous membranes. The development was funded by Pfizer, a British drug company. The development was carried out under the supervision of a team led by Dr David Woodcock. The cream was named after Zovirax, a scientist who discovered the phenomenon known as herpes simplex virus. The cream contains Dimeticone, a naturally occurring substance. Dimeticone is part of a group of substances known as acyclovir, an antiviral agent. Acyclovir works by preventing the replication of the virus. Dimeticone acts by interfering with the virus's ability to spread and multiply through the penetration of the nucleic acid within the cells. It inhibits the viral DNA polymerase, an enzyme that replicates the virus. Dimeticone is also used to treat other infections caused by HSV. It is important to note that this cream does not cure HSV infections, and therefore it is not suitable for use in people with known susceptibility to acyclovir. It is also not recommended for use in people with a known sensitivity to acyclovir. In people with a known sensitivity to acyclovir, acyclovir can therefore be used to treat viral infections caused by HSV.
